It’s hard to be a youth today! And it’s really challenging to parent middle and high school youth right now. Mt. Tam Church offers a variety of ways to nurture youth on their journey to adulthood.
Youth, grades 7-12, gather on Sunday mornings with a mentoring adult; for fun, fellowship and meaningful conversation. They discuss current events, faith topics and their lives in the context of their Christian faith. On the first Sunday of every month, youth, grades 4-12, remain in the service with their families, participate in communion, and are encouraged to take a leadership role in worship.
Throughout the year, youth, grades 5-12, will have the opportunity to serve the local community. Check the calendar to see when the next day of service will be or contact the church office!
Youth, grades 6 and up, are invited to join our youth group. Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, 6-7:30pm. Dinner included. Meet in our youth lounge (Room 2) with Youth Director Mimi Sheffer. For more info or to RSVP, email Mt.Tam.Youth@gmail.com.
Wednesday After-School Program
All youth from the community, 5th grade and up are welcome to come to our youth room, open from 2:30-4, to hang out, do homework, play games, or have a snack. This is a great place to hang out between school and sports or between school or sports and parents picking up. The room will be supervised by a Mt. Tam Church staff person or adult volunteer, all whom are background checked.
Confirmation (Confirm Not Conform, CnC)
Confirmation classes will take place during the 2017-2018 school year for all youth, 5th grade and up. Classes will be led by Pastor Kim Smith and held on various Sunday evenings in the year.
Every summer, youth, grades 6-12, will have the opportunity to participate in a Mission Trip. Come share your gifts, engage with a community, and learn to see the face of God in yourself and in others. In 2017, the youth served in Spokane, WA with Sierra Service Project.
Youth are encouraged throughout the year to participate in leadership roles both within the congregation and with our children's ministry program. They serve as craft teachers for children's events, offer special music or read scripture during worship or become camp counselors during our annual children's faith based summer camp program. We invite youth to share their talents and gifts with the church in whatever area they feel called to serve.
