Our Mission & Belief
To connect people with God’s amazing love and grace and create a community of service and justice with the world.
We believe that faith is a journey. In fact, we celebrate that life with God in Jesus Christ is an adventure! Jesus offers us a path for life in God that is rich and enlivening. Our purpose is rooted in scripture, tradition, our individual lives and our engagement in the world. We love sharing that path with others!
In the Bible, Matthew 22 offers our foundation: [The greatest teaching is] “Love God with all your heart, soul and mind. And love your neighbor as yourself.” Our tradition as United Methodists comes from founder John Wesley, “Though we cannot think alike, may we not love alike? May we not be of one heart, though we are not of one opinion? Without all doubt, we may. Herein all the children of God may unite.” Our individual lives are a blessing from God and from them, we learn how God is alive in us. Our engagement in the world calls us to work for justice and peace, in southern Marin County and around the world.
New to Mt. Tam?
Welcome to the Mt. Tam Church community! We experience each newcomer as part of God’s gift to us, so truly, welcome! Most people start their journey at Mt. Tam Church in worship. Because we encourage our church members to visit other congregations, we all know what it is like to be the new person on Sunday morning. We strive to welcome you warmly, encourage you to enjoy worship and get to know the church in the fellowship time that follows. Please seek out Pastor Luke so he can personally greet you. We want to be a faith community that nurtures your spiritual life, and supports your family on your faith journey. Welcome to Mt. Tam Church!
Reconciling Congregation
Mt. Tam Church celebrates being a Reconciling Congregation, a program for United Methodist churches that proudly and openly welcomes people of all gender identities and sexual orientations. We rejoice that we invite and welcome people of every age, racial or ethnic background, nationality, physical or mental ability, education, marital or socioeconomic status, sexual and gender identity into full participation in the life of this faith community.
We affirm our belief that we are all God’s beloved children, that our committed, loving relationships are pleasing to God and all families that grow out of these relationships are a blessing from God.
We invite all people to join us in our faith journey toward greater love, understanding and mutual respect. We joyfully celebrate this opportunity to openly and publicly state our welcome to all, a long-standing tradition and practice at Mt. Tam Church.
