Dear Friends,
I don’t know about you, but I came away from last weekend’s worship feeling energized and hopeful about the future! Joanna Beck’s uplifting report from the 2021 annual conference session in Sacramento, the joy of sharing our gifts as we prayed over our 2022 pledge cards, wonderful insights from our kiddos during the children’s moment, active Sunday School classes, new visitors and old friends… it all made for a great way to kick off a new week! I pray that we can keep this positive momentum going as we head towards the Advent and Christmas season!
This week in worship, we will be celebrating Reign of Christ Sunday (aka Christ is King Sunday). As part of our time together, we will be talking about how RADICAL that declaring “Jesus is Lord” was in ancient Rome and how meaningful it can be for us to make that same declaration today. While the image of the divine as an earthly king/ruler can be problematic if misused, I hope to make a case during my sermon that this image has also been key to liberating countless people for nearly 2000 years.
I look forward to sharing more with you on Sunday.
In Peace and Hope,
Luke
P.S. If you haven’t sent in your pledge card for 2022 yet, please know it is not too late! Feel free to mail it into the office or place it in the offering plate the next time you are with us in-person for worship. Every pledge, regardless of amount helps our congregation thrive and is deeply appreciated.
