Dear Friends,
For the past several weeks you have been hearing me share a little bit about the Marin Organizing Committee’s effort to increase wages for in-home caregivers in our county. The hope is that increasing wages will not only provide a better life for those doing this vital work, but it will also increase the amount of caregivers who are willing to work and live among us so that everyone who is seeking care can receive it.
I am excited to announce that our church will be hosting a civic academy which will provide even more information and background on this very important topic. This educational event will take place in the fellowship hall from Noon-1:30pm on Sunday, February 26th. As part of our time together, we will be hearing firsthand accounts of what it is like to be a caregiver including a testimony from a fellow Methodist who is part of our sister congregation in San Rafael. We will also learn how we can take action in order to make these ideas a reality. I hope you will mark this event in your calendar and join us!
As part of this effort, we will need volunteers to work the welcome table as well as facilitate small group discussions. We will also need volunteers who are willing to take part in a short educational skit during the program so if you enjoy acting- this is an opportunity for you! If you are willing to volunteer in any of these ways, please e-mail me directly at [email protected]. This event is open to the community at large so please also invite your friends!
I give thanks for you and all the ways that Mt. Tam Church strives to love, care for, and advocate for our neighbors.
Sincerely,
