Dear Mt. Tam Church,
I invite you to join me for worship this Sunday at 10:30 am as we begin a new ten-week sermon series entitled “The Ancestors of Jesus.”
In this series, we will explore the lives of ten people from the Old Testament whom the Gospel writers name as part of the royal line leading to Jesus. These are not polished or predictable heroes. They are complicated, deeply human, and often overlooked figures whose stories still matter profoundly for our faith today.
This Sunday, we begin with Tamar.
Tamar is one of the most unexpected names in Jesus’ family tree. Her story is messy, morally complex and set in a world where women had little protection or power. It is a story many would rather skip over. And yet, our Scriptures refuses to erase her.
Together, we will reflect on how God’s saving work so often moves through people who struggle simply to survive. Tamar’s presence in Jesus’ lineage proclaims that God sees the vulnerable, does not look away from injustice, and can bring hope and healing out of situations that never should have happened.
If you have ever wondered whether your story is too complicated, too painful, or too imperfect to matter to God, this week’s sermon is for you!
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Take care,
Pastor Luke
