Dear Friends,
I hope that you are staying well during this season of expectation and preparation that we in the church call Advent.
During these 4 weeks leading up to THE BIG DAY, I am doing a sermon series entitled “The Characters of Christmas.” Last week, we kicked off this series by taking a closer look at the Shepherds and their response to the news of Christ’s birth. We then thought about how we might embrace those same reactions when we encounter good news of God’s presence, love and grace in the world today.
Now, while it’s always nice to look at the ways we can emulate the positive traits of Biblical characters, it is also just as important for us to pay attention to the characters who have responses or who take actions we should avoid. Therefore, this Sunday in worship we will be looking at the “bad guy” of in the Christmas narrative known as Herod the Great. We will reflect on why the good news for the world ended up being bad news for someone with his viewpoint and how we can prevent ourselves from falling into the same trap he did.
I look forward to sharing more with you in worship!
In Hope and Peace,
Luke
