My beloved Mt. Tam Church family,
As the world seemingly gets more discombobulated–smoke and fire adding layers of panic and compromised living to pandemic and politics–when people ask me a question where the answer requires some form of certainty, my response often is, “I don’t know!” Such as:
Will we be able to have Christmas Eve services in the sanctuary?
I don’t know!
What will the church be like post-Covid?
I don’t know!
With all the smoke, are we having the outdoor service this Sunday? Guess what?
I don’t know!
I say this with a smile because that’s what I have to offer: a smile of humor, a heart of love, and togetherness in all the uncertainty around me. As far as I know, my hope is that—
This Sunday, September 13th, we will have in person outdoor worship together. We have taken every precaution, jumped every hurdle, received every approval, and created a space that is as safe as flying on an airplane, gathering in a friend’s backyard, public park, or going to the store. If you have done any of these the past six months, you will find our service arrangements just as safe or even safer! 10:30 AM in the Linda Garden, live streaming in real time on Facebook. As for the smoke levels, we will send out an email and post it on Facebook by 8:30 AM on Sunday if the outdoor service is not taking place due to smoke levels. Either way, we will worship at 10:30 AM!
In all this uncertainty, there is one thing of which I can be certain of, the one thing I know: God is here with us, God has made us a new creation, and God has called us together as God’s church in these times. I look forward to celebrating this certainty with you.
Peace,
Pastor Kim
