Dear Friends,
Last week, we kicked off our 3-part sermon series entitled “Overlooked Bible Stories” by looking at the story of Balaam and his talking donkey. This week in worship we will be looking at another character from the Old Testament you may
not be familiar with named Elisha.
A little background: Elisha was a student of the well-known prophet Elijah and the verses of scripture we will be looking at this week record some of the first miracles attributed to him. As you will see on Sunday, one of these miracles leads to life and the very next miracle (or perhaps a better word would be curse) leads to one of the most strange and brutal deaths in all of the Bible. We will be using this unusual tale to reflect on the power of our words in the world today.
Moving on, as we draw closer to the season of Lent, I want to let you know that I will be leading a special Ash Wednesday service in the sanctuary on March 2nd starting at 6:30pm. The service will be about 40 minutes long and include song, prayer, scripture, a brief message and the imposition of ashes. While deeply meaningful, this will be a simple and informal service so please feel free to come
as you are- no need to get dressed up unless you really want to!
Finally, I am excited to let you know that I will be facilitating two
6-week Lenten Study groups that will be focusing on the Lord’s Prayer. You can read more details about the study in the announcements section of this email. The evening session will take place on Mondays from 6:30-8:00pm and the morning session will take place on Tuesdays from 10:30am-Noon. If you are interested in joining me for one of these groups, please send an email at [email protected] so I can add you to the roster. Both groups will be held in-person on our church campus. The exact room we will be using will be determined by the number of folks who sign up.
Wishing you a safe, happy and healthy weekend and if you are a football fan, I hope you are able to enjoy this year’s super bowl.
In Peace and Joy,
Pastor Luke
