Every June, delegates from our church attend Annual Conference – the gathering of lay members and pastors from the California-Nevada United Methodist Churches. They spend time in prayer and worship, attend training, hear reports and recommendations and make decisions on proposed legislation, along with other business related items. This year, much discussion will probably be around the actions of the General Conference last February.
Our church has traditionally sent 2 lay delegates and our pastor to Annual Conference. With our pastor on sabbatical and one lay member not able to attend, Joanna Beck will be our one and only delegate. Joanna takes her service very seriously and looks forward to the conference every year. I’ve heard from her how she feels the power of all those Methodists gathered together, singing the hymns in unison. And I’m sure there will be some critical votes taking place this year!
As you’re reading this, Joanna will be wrapping up at Annual Conference. Thanks Joanna for being a lay delegate for our church and for holding all of us with you as you are there. Thanksgiving is the topic of this Sunday’s sermon! I hope you’ll join us Sunday and greet and thank Joanna for her important work!
