Dear Friends,
I would like to begin by asking you to join me in praying for our siblings in Tonga, Fiji and the surrounding areas after last week’s news of the
underwater volcanic eruption and tsunami. The United Methodist Committee on Relief is currently assessing all the ways we as a connectional church can support the people affected by this natural disaster. You can learn more or donate to the international relief fund by visiting this website:

This week in worship, we will be continuing our 4-part sermon series on the Book of Jonah. Specifically, we will be looking at Chapter 3. In this chapter, Jonah finally follows God’s command to go to the city of
Nineveh. As a reminder: Nineveh was the capital of the Assyrian empire which was one of the most destructive forces in the region at the time that this story is set. This empire did not only conquer other nations but also tortured many of the people they conquered. One would naturally expect people like the Assyrians to reject a call to repentance from the Hebrew God. However, we find that the folks in Nineveh, including the King himself had a very different reaction to God’s word for them.
I look forward to sharing more with you in worship as we think about
how God might have just as much (if not more) faith in humanity as we have in God.
I hope to see you in-person or on the live stream on Sunday.
In Peace,
Luke
