My beloved Mt. Tam Church,
Mt. Tam Church is up on the deck! Meaning preparing to be ready to go to bat as we move toward being together again for outdoor worship on September 13th! Above are the first photos of the deck–the worship leadership deck that Kevin Skiles, with help from Jack, so far, is constructing for outdoor worship in the courtyard and Nelson Garden. By next week, the deck will be ready, we’ll be painting the “safe space circles” on the ground, arranging to get more picnic tables and sound testing the outdoor recording system in preparation for coming together again. We have all the physical preparations underway: hand sanitizer, touchless thermometers, an expanded usher/greet team, and enough signage to pave a freeway. Thanks to the Return Team for all your work!
Now, we need to get ourselves personally “up on deck.” Earlier this week, you should have received a SurveyMonkey to survey how folks are feeling about returning to worship together outdoors. On Wednesday, September 2nd, at 7 p.m., we are hosting a Zoom Town Hall meeting for an additional check-in. Next week, you will be receiving electronically a packet of materials for getting ready, which will also be available on the website. We are coming up to bat!
Now for the most important part: getting ourselves ready spiritually and emotionally. Some of us will not feel comfortable, even with all the safety precautions that are being taken, in returning to outdoor in person worship. We will miss you in person and join you online as the service is live streamed on Facebook. All of us want to assure that we are doing everything to be safe. Please read over all the safety precautions we are taking, and practice them, to assure yourselves. Many of us are eager to jump in–and it will be hard not to hug each other and sing the hymns as loudly as we can. And we need to practice all the guidelines to worship together safely and happily.
So, pray! Pray! Pray! Pray for all those infected with and impacted by the corona virus. Pray for our church as we come back together in person. Pray for our church as we morph both old-school church and new age church.
Please pray for your pastor and the whole staff and all the lay leaders as we strive to move forward with faith and confidence. And pray your thanksgiving to God that in these uncertain and awful times–made worse by fire and smoke–that God is with us always. We have each other; we have God’s love and with that, we can move through all things and be on the deck, ready to worship and praise God!
Peace,
Pastor Kim
